Lab set-up 2021

It has been just over two months since the first members of the Dey lab arrived in Heidelberg, and despite quarantines and restrictions brought upon us by the ongoing pandemic, we are now present in full force and busy with experiments!

During the last several weeks we managed to transform a blank slate into a lab packed with gadgets, bottles of medium, buffer, and stacks of agar plates - and most importantly a motivated bunch of researchers! Much of this is thanks to the incredible support staff at EMBL - empowering us to wake up the first strains from their cryogenic slumber already in mid-January!

The Dey lab was initially greeted by a stunningly beautiful snow-covered EMBL campus - with spring upon us, we’re even able to have our (COVID-safe) journal club meetings outside! Inspired by the forest literally on our doorstep, our first lab trip was to the local garden centre the day it opened post-lockdown - bringing a little piece of the forest into our offices!
